1993 300ZX NA
Meet members Jim Duane - "Original Owner" (family membership under Jim & Joni )
Info below proved by Jim:
I bought the car new in Florence Kentucky(a Ky suburb of Cincinnati, Oh) after two month search for a sapphire blue model. I told the dealer I would only buy a 300ZX if they found the blue. I wanted a turbo, but would take any model that was sapphire blue, even though I had only seen a picture of the blue model. I am glad I held out , because the car in that color simply looks like a different car than the Z's in the other colors. It has more elegance I think.
To be honest, I had not been a big Z fan since the 240Z. I wanted one then, but with a career, young children and other obligations I never got one. But from the moment I first saw the Z32 300ZX in car magazines I was smitten. I remember the first actual 300ZX I saw I knew then I would own one. In 1994 I drove the Z down from Cincy to the 12 Hours of Sebring That was the year Steve Millen in a 300ZX won the race outright. Was I ever proud driver around the race area.
A little story about buying the car that women will probably enjoy. I got the Z on Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. When I brought the car home that afternoon I said to Joni "Happy Mother's Day" A month later Father's day morning she came into the kitchen - walked over to me to show me her finger with a new ring with four diamonds and said " Happy Father's Day"
So much for the stories. Here are the Specs

I drove the car everyday for the first two years including Cincinnati's awful winters before deciding to keep it as a collector car. It was always garaged even though the car was still driven a lot by me, my son, and my daughter. In 1998 I basically put the car up. Today it is kept covered in the garage. My wife laughs-- she says all I do is uncover it, pull it out of the garage, wash and wax it, then pull it back in and put the cover on. I spend more time cleaning the car than driving it. Over the next two years I plan to continue work on the car to make it a better show car. It will be kept stock.
Every three weeks I take it out for a 15 mile run. Other than that I only drive it to Z events or other car shows. The car shows well at non Z car shows.
Each day Sapphire Blue 300ZX's gets rarer and -- This Z will stay in the family! |
